About BMR Calculation

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions while at rest.

This calculator uses two formulas:

  • Mifflin-St Jeor Equation (default) - Uses weight, height, age, and gender
  • Katch-McArdle Formula - Used when body fat percentage is provided, considered more accurate as it accounts for lean body mass

Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity factor based on your typical level of physical activity.
